Snorkling trip
Am looking at getting out of Melbourne from middle of June till end July ( hate the cold)
Am trying to get some help on snorkling spots and a short list is the Gili,s (Indonesia) Or some where in Southern Thailand Any thoughts on thise two or any others --any help b good |
Adding Langkawi (Malaysia) to the list
|
You will want to check for weather at each location you are considering. When it is rainy, the water also get choppy, so not so clear for seeing fish. So I would take the Andaman Sea side Southern Thailand off your list, and likewise, Langkawi. But you could look at Koh Samui/Ko Tao in the Gulf of Thailand. Also, look into areas off the coast of Borneo.

I thought Samui and Tao as options
Where in Borneo ,Sabah possibly ?? |
Thanks Kathie---off to do some research
|
Yes, off the coast of Sabah.

Thanks Kathie--after Singapore Anzac Dawn Service last year I flew to Sandakan for a stay at Sepilok and was impressed with
Sabah. Will look at KL to Surat Thani( with break to Samui or Tao) by train then Bangkok ,a trip I have wanted or pick up a KL to Kota Kinabalu Love that part of Asia |
I don't have current information on the Gilis, but my impression is that the snorkeling is good, but not exceptional.
Snorkeling around Menjanan Island in northwest Bali is very good. For phenomenal reefs accessible from shore look at north Sulawesi, around Bunaken Island and the Lembeh Strait. Excellent visibility and some of the most diverse marine life on the planet. The international airport at Manado has good connections to Singapore and other Asian cities. |
