Skype or Facetime from Burma?
Anyone tried it, specifically Facetime....?
|
I doubt it Laurie! Even when you do find a location with Internet access I think it will be pretty slow. Also, I believe they have banned all VoIP.
Some recent news from Google: http://www.asianews.it/news-en/Burme...oIP-21090.html |
Lori, you are lucky if you can get/send email in Burma! We were never able to get to any of our many email accounts while in Burma. The one they have the best work-around for right now is gmail. You might open an account just to use in Burma (I have).
|
GMail is not accessible unless... you access through Google Talk. That worked in January 2011 but may now be blocked. Other option is to have a service that uses Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol (SSTP) - under Windows 7 - for example through Blacklogic. Even some VPN services are blocked. Speed is generally slow.
Without the tools I mentioned your access to almost anything will be problemmatic. |
not nice~!

Some people have reported being able to Skype from Yangon, but I wouldn't count on it.
|
If email is a problem would we be able to check in online for our return flights from Yangon ?
|
Very unlikely that you will be able to check in online. When you go to the airport, you'll find they check you in by hand-writng your name on a list.
