Singapore - Traders or New Otani
Anyone been to these two hotels? We are unsure which one to choose. It seems that the New Otani may be in a better position. I had thought that Traders was a good hotel but have been reading some not so good reports about it. I would appreciate any comments on either hotel.

New Otani I have stayed at, not Traders. Singapore has such a large choice of good places. My own 'personal little gem' is the Royal Peacock in Chinatown, right out of Somerset Maughan and the like, you half expect Humphrey Boghart to join you at the bar! Certainly worth having a think about, boutique place that oozes charm and character, unlike the high-rise block hotels. About US$60-70 a night.

Thanks James but I am tied to specific hotels as I am doing this as a "package". I aam unable to it as DIY for the price I am being quoted.I have also been given the choice of the Pan Pacific. It looks very good- any views on that?

Hi, I just got back yesterday from Singapore.
For location, I would go for the New Otani. It's right near Clarke Quay and, if you walk across the bridge, you can access the new MRT stop next to the Merchant Court. That's where we stayed. The location is terrific. We had a view of the New Otani from our balcony. The Pan Pacific is to far out in my opinion. Taxis are fairly cheap in Singapore (compared to places like New York, Vegas, etc.) but, you often have to wait in line for one and the prices go up when it's raining. Then, it's hard to find one at all. I have not stayed at any of the places you mentioned but based on MRT access and location, I would vote for the Otani. |
thanks Marcie.
We have actually booked Pan Pacific- it seems to get good reviews and we are resigned to taxis- at least to take us to the MTR. |
Well good luck!
Say, if you're there on a Sunday, DO NOT miss the sunday brunch at the Ritz. The Ritz is right near your hotel. It is amazing. Free flow of Moet & Chandon brut, lobster claws, 15 different French cheese, shrimp, sushi, etc. And for dessert, baked to order mini chocolate souffle! $50 per person. It was great. |
