Singapore to Indonesia, Malaysia or Thailand

I'm using Singapore as 'homebase' for traveling around in August.
Having 16 days, can anyone suggest interesting places to visit so we can put these places in to our trip?
Very thankful of any help!

What sort of travellers are you, backpackers, or comfort-zone only?

If the former, I would recommend you bus up to Malacca and then jump on a ferry across to Sumatra and on to Bukittinggi, Lake Toba and the orangutan rehab park north of Medan. From there back through Medan, and ferry to Penang and on to Phuket in Thailand via Hat Yai.

From Phuket fly back to SG.

If the latter I can't help you.

Hi Bri,
I am partial to all actually. If you put a gun to my head, I would have to choose Thailand. Here's why.. Thailand is very exotic and many things to offer. People are genuinely friendly, although the language barrier can be troublesome.. but's that's part of the mystic of Thailand. Tourism industry is well-developed there, hence, you can probably find touristy things to do easier.

Malaysia is another favorite - but I would rather be at the many islands rather than the city. Kuala Lumpur is less hectic than Bangkok but traffic can be paralyzing come peak hours. Public transportation at these hours can be minimal, if you're lucky. On the plus side, shopping is great - even cheaper than Thailand (if that's possible). Highly recommended the islands in the east coast.. Pulau Redang, Perhentian, Tioman, Tenggol.. to name a few. I can go on and on but to fit your time, I suggest, from Singapore, take a bus to Mersing and grab a ferry to Tioman Island (you won't regret it). From there, you can fly to Kuala Lumpur (30 mins flight or slightly more) and spend no more than two days there (sight seeing, shopping.. what have you). Need more island therapy, fly to Kuala Terengganu and grab a ferry to either Redang Island or Perhentian Island for some sun and scuba diving (best diving sites). From there, you can grab a flight or bus to Phuket, Krabi or Koh Samui (for some dose of Thai hospitality). A few days there and grab a flight to Bangkok. I would pass Indonesia until another time when you have another 16 days to pass. Indonesia is huge and must be appreciated (if you have more time to spare). Hate to rush and miss out on the beauty of the country.

Either way, have fun. Email me if you specific questions. I may be able to help
