Singapore - suggestions please.

I am accompanying my husband to Singapore later on this month. He is attending a conference so I need to explore by myself. I hope we can make it to the night safari together but can anyone make suggestions of some trips I could/should make by myself during the day? I would be particularly interested in a food tour, does such a tour exist? Shopping - what are the good buys in Singapore and where are the best shops?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

There's a lot that's been written on Singapore. You can click on my name and the many posts that I've answered on Singapore will be there. Happy Travels!

I like the following shopping places:

- Tanglin Shopping Centre (antiques, galleries etc),
- Raffles Arcade (hotel gift shop & Jim Thompson Thai silk boutique),
- Arab Street (lots of interesting shops),
- Ngee Ann City (mall & boutiques)

Some of the addresses can be found here:

Food wise, if you like spicy food, Little India is the place to go. Komala Villas serves delicious Indian vegetarian snacks like dosai and poori with sambar, chickpea curries etc. There's also an excellent Kulfi Bar at Upper Dickson Road you must go.

If you like Vietnamese food, go to Mai Vietnamese restaurant at 60B Orchard Road #01-16 The Atrium. It is next to Plaze Singapura. Tel: 6837-2040

For the best Northern Chinese steamed and pan-fried dumplings (Peking ravioli/pot stickers), go to Tian Jin Restaurant at Blk 231, #02-01, Bain Street, Bras Basah Complex. Tel: 6336-1802.

For Sze Chuan cuisine, try Si Chuan Dou Hua Seafood Restaurant at Plaza Parkroyal, 7500A Beach Road. Tel: 6290-8005.

Thanying Restaurant at Amara Hotel Level 2, 165 Tanjong Pagar Road serves authentic Thai cuisine. Tel: 6222-4688.

You can find excellent French cakes and pastries at Canale Patisserie located at 11 Unity Street, Robertson Walk #01-09, Tel: 6738-8145

Hope you enjoy your eating and shopping spree in Singapore!
