My favorite hotel is the Fairmont, ideally located above a mall and an MRT station.

Get a guidebook - there is so much to see and do. Some of my favorites: the orchid garden at the botanical gardens, the Museum of Asian Civilizations, the Jurong Bird Park Aviary. Of course, the food must not be missed. Great food of all kinds, wonderful, safe, hawker food.

(QW, you can actually bring in chewing gum for your own use, but it is illegal to import for sale.)

We found that unlike others Singapore was not a tourist mecca and 2 full days is more than sufficient. Little India, Orchid Street, botanical gardens and "maybe" the zoo and Chinese lunch or dinner at Raffles.

Unlike Stan I could fill days in Singapore ( and agree with Kathie, it's a myth it's illegal to bring in chewing gum) I too loved the bird park, Botanical gardens, a walk round china town/ little India. The night safari is great. If you are into Shopping that could take up at least a day,
Club street and the area around Fullerton Bay hotel are good for bars ( the bar at the top of the Fullerton Bay hotel has AMAZING views of Marina Bay sands etc but you must book ahead)
Check out Dempsey Hill for great furniture shopping and has a lovely selection of restaurants (Jumbo is good for black pepper crab and my friend who lives in SP said it's now the best place to get it)

I really enjoyed the Asian Civilisation museum and have yet to visit some of the other great museums.
If you can spring for Raffles, do so, we had a wonderful stay their a few years ago. On my last visit in August I went to a hawker centre I hadn't been to before, Lau pa sat and the food really was great. You can also get the ferry to Bintan or Universal studios over on Sentosa( I'm not a big fan of Sentosa myself, but many people like it)
