Singapore: Restaurants near Pan Pacific Hotel
After our cruise, we will stay at the Pan Pacific on Raffles Blvd. for a few days. I am hoping for some recommendations, please, for good restaurants, not too expensive, within walking distance of our hotel. This will be our first time in Singapore, and we hope to try food that represents the locale.

There are lots of restaurants around the area. What is your budget?
For 'high end' hawker food.

Seafood restaurant at the Esplande nearby if you want to try the chilli crab. I prefer their outlet at 414 Geylang - a short taxi ride away.

Thanks, KMLoke. They both sound good. We prefer to pay no more than $20 U.S. equivalent per person, when possible. What might we expect to pay at these two recommendations, perhaps for the chili crab?

Thanks, mcbg1. It is good to know what we might expect to pay. We would also be interested in recommendations for restaurants in Clark Quay. How long might we expect it would take to walk from the Pan Pacific to Clark Quay? (We are reasonably fit, so walking would be at a normal clip.) Are there any traffic hazards in between?

The walk from Pan Pacific to Clark Quay might take an hour give or take. So long as you don't jaywalk you'll be fine.

You budget of US$20 a person for seafood meal at a restaurant is a little low. You'll need about US$50.
For a little over US$20 you might get them at a stall at a hawker center. I like this place. You can get there by MTR on the Circle Line. Board the train at Esplanade (station CC3) and drop off at Mountbatter (CC7). The hawker center is a short walk from there. I frequent the place often as there's a good variety of good food.

Thanks for this great advice. I was thinking, looking at a city map, that it might take 20 minutes. We probably will, at some point, take in the sights mentioned and it might be a good idea to allow extra time to see them on the way over, or back if after lunchtime. KMLoke you mentioned not jaywalking. We would be grateful for other advice on what not to do while in Singapore, as I know there are penalties for what may be considered inappropriate behavior. We are generally considerate travelers, but it is good to be up to date on expectations.

Forgot to add there's a food court at Marina Square near your hotel which has a great view.
