Singapore or KL

On our trip to SE Asia we have 7 days total for KL and Singapore. 4 days in one and 3 days in the other. Which city deserves 4 days and why ?

Have been to both and I would say do 4 in KL and 3 in Sing. There is more to see and do in KL, Sing is rather small and fairly westernized- so if you are looking to get more culture under your belt, and better bargains- stick to KL.

I say 4 in Singapore and 3 in Kl.There's a lot to do in Singapore. In the back of the Treasures and Pleasures of Singapore book...Impact guide... there's a list of 101 things to do while in Singapore...which is great since I've heard people say that there's not much to do there..but many usually stay a couple of days and leave and don't really get into it... I've been there many times and still haven't done everything...and have stayed up to a week and a half on some visits. I found KL a bit boring except it's architectually fascinating.I spent three days there which I found sufficient. Happy Travels!

ok, i have been to both. my vote is for sing. basically, it's compact, good transportation via bus or mrt, very safe, organized, orderly, clean, and alot better food(imo).

I know from your other posts that you have a good itinerary for Malacca, Penang etc. so as for which city to spend more time in it is kind of a toss up. You might want to spend less time in either and more time in the countryside of Malaysia which is very beautiful, lots of little villages, etc.

I am not a big fan of KL because I don't think there is actually that much to see and do compared to Singapore. Singapore also has more and better museums (not much talked about on this site), and has an interesting mix of Malay, Chinese and Indian culture as well as native Peranakan culture and esp food. Little India is a lot of fun and has some great restaurants. I also like the preserved colonial bits of Singapore, esp the Cricket Club, Maidan and areas around there. KL has very little left and is more spread out so not walkable like it is in Singapore. You will also get to see some of the Chinese New Year celebrations which last for a few weeks. You would not see as much of this in KL (or Malaysia generally).

BillT, Singapore has a veneer of Westernization, but is not really westernized, that to me is one of its more interesting aspects.

OK- it looks like I'm out voted- but I found KL a lot more interesting than Sing and the US dollar went a lot farther. Yes Sing is more walkable but the taxis in Kl are dirt cheap so that is not an issue. We also found the shopping better in KL.

Make it a point to go to the Asian Civilizations museum in Singapore...it's absolutely fabulous! And eat at Indochine restaurant...for lunch...preferebly the one on Club Street although there is one at the Asian Civilizations Museum, but that one doesn't open until dinner time. Happy Travels!
