singapore hotel--clean, affordable?

We are in Singapore for two nights on our way back to SFO. The first night we are splurging on the Ritz. However, our flight to leave after the second night requires us to be at the airport by 5:30am.

Any suggestions on a CLEAN, affordable hotel for a quick night's sleep? I have been researching hotels and see that many places are sold out for these dates. Anybody know why?
The dates we need the room is Feb. 20 and check out the 21st.

Thanks! :)

The Asian Aerospace event is scheduled from the 21st to the 26th of February hence the shortage of rooms.

What's the budget that you are looking for and the area so that more appropriate suggestions can be made.

Take a look at one of the hotel booking sites such as asiahotels.com and tell us what you are looking at that is in your price range and an area you like. There are zillions of hotels in Singapore, if you give us a few more hints, no doubt someone will be able to help!

We stay at the Tristar Inn for early arrivals or departures, available on www.asiarooms.com for US42 for 2 pax. The hotel is clean, quiet & there are lots of food places close by. It around $S15 to the airport from Geyland Rd., close to the hotel.

It depends on 'affordable, usualy for around SGD 120-160 you can get a nice hotel, if your flight means you need to be at the airport by 5.30 am the SMRT isn't really going to help, there are lots of nice mid range 3 star hotels, Allson is quite good, near Bugis Street/Bugis Junctuion, Golden landmark roughly same area is cheaper, but I agree with KMLoke that when there are big events hotel rooms become scarce quickly, if you want intil 20 days before you are due to stay rates to Go have great last minute offers and they tell you what is available and last minute rates.

I just did a quick check for Feb 20th on Asiaoz and they had lots available in all price ranges, if you want a nice hotel without going luxury Elizabeth, Rendezvous, Swissotel Merchant Court, all good and reasonable, if you don't mind the USD 150 range then Royal Plaza on Scotts is good location for Orchard Road and an easy cab ride to airport that time of night, it really depends on your budget.

The Allson is around the USD 80 range all included, there are lots of places less than that but I am wid guessing you are looking for good but not Ritz level.

Thanks for all the responses. My husband was mistaken and we don't have to be at the airport until 7:00am as opposed to 5:15am. A little more wiggle room.

As for price range I would love something between $65-120 USD. I checked on places such as:
Traders
Elizabeth (and the other hotels affiliated with this company)
Crown Prince Hotel
Marriott
Le Meridian by the airport
Orchard Road
Pan Pacific...etc.
All booked for that night due to the convention.

I'd love any suggestions.

Thanks a ton!

Don't be overly concerned about getting a hotel near the airport. At that time of the morning normally you should get to the airport within 30 mins from town. Ask the recept/concierge to help book a cab ahead.

YMCA International House Hotel .... 1 Orchard Road. I've stayed there regularly since the 90s and love the place. It's about US$47.00 a night for a room that sleeps two, breakfast is included, and there's a pool on the roof. It's right next to the Dhoby Gaut MRT(subway) station. Great location and very clean. Happy Travels!

We have stayed often at vrown prince and liked it for being good plus great location.

Sorry that should be Crown Prince. It really does seem to be very very busy at that time, I just had another look and nearly everything seems full, though what 'is' showing available is 3-star Royal at Queens at USD 81 a night, that's on asiaoz.com
