Singapore hotel

Will be in Singapore for 3 days in mid-January. Looking for a hotel in a convenient location either for walking to sights or near a MRT station. Does anyone know anything about the Quincy Hotel or the Royal Palace. Other hotels we have been looking at are the Shangri-Law & Fairmont. 20 years ago stayed in what was called the Westin Stamford (I think it is now the Swissotel). How is that location?

I stayed at the Shangri-La a week ago and have to say I love that hotel. It was hard to leave the property! It's not particularly good for walking to sites but Uber works well in Singapore.

I've stayed in a half dozen different hotels in S'pore. I'd do Ritz Carlton if in your price range, AMOY if not.

Happy Travels!

Warm Friday greetings to the OP, donnap, and congrats on future stay in our fine home of Singapore.

The above link kindly submitted contains good lodging and dining info. Will also submit the name of a future property that should be coming into full operation during the first quarter of next year: The Patina, Capitol Singapore. (Bit of a promotion as we are friends with some individuals who have been involved with The Patina since her earliest planning.) Am presently on the road for work and won't be back home in SIN until next week; upon return, will have additional Patina information.

Savour your planning; happy for you. Early and warm weekend wishes to you and all,

robert

AO, since you know some of the people involved in The Patina's development, how big will the pool be? Their website says it will be a relaxing saltwater pool, but will it be big enough to swim laps in (that is, at least 15 metres long, preferably 20 metres or longer)? I hate it when hotels build pools that aren't big enough to really swim in.

Thanks!

Robert, Thank you for your promo for The Patina. Will it be open in January?

AskOksena Nov 19th, 2015 02:45 PM

Warm Friday morning greetings from our fine home of Singapore.

Received some Patina updates at a business reception last evening. The property's pool will not be of proper lap swimming length, the main reason being the inherent constraints of renovating two heritage buildings, each with existing and ongoing limitations. Should you desire a fine lap pool in SIN, will give a promotion of my old Singapore business travel hotel, the Four Seasons; 20 metres of aquatic bliss (along with a family pool on a different floor) -- and a lovely property with great friends, management and staff.

At present, The Patina's opening date will most likely not transpire next January. For now, Patina management is confident of full operation by Easter weekend: 25-28 March, '16. I have seen layouts of some of her lodgings; in particular, her Stamford Suites (with "Reading Room" benefits) look particularly attractive.

The Patina should be a welcome addition to our Singapore lodging scene. (And should add, my enthusiasm stems in part from my current work entailing certain facets of the high-end lodging trade.)

As always, enjoy your planning. Will have more hotel updates next week, not from SIN, but rather beloved Bangkok for a few days of meetings (and coordinating with the always special Loy Krathong, riverside). Early and warm weekend wishes to you and all,

robert

Back to your original question... You stayed at the Westing Stamford years ago. You may remember that there were two hotels on the property, it used to be the Westin Stamford and the Westin Plaza. The Stamford is now the Swissotel, the Plaza is now the Fairmont. This is an ideal location, as there is an MRT station located below the shopping center which is below the two hotels.

Thank you Robert, but I prefer the Mandarin Oriental's pool to the Four Seasons' -- it's bigger overall and has a terrific view.

Kathie, Thanks for clarifying which hotels were where we had stayed before. We have seen rave reviews about the Regent, but are concerned about the location. Can anyone give us more information about it & if it is near anything?

Kathie Nov 23rd, 2015 05:28 PM

The Regent wouldn't be an ideal location for me.

AskOksena Nov 24th, 2015 02:16 PM

Early morning Loy Krathong greetings from ongoing meetings in Bangkok to the OP, donnap.

Concerning The Regent, had the pleasure of staying at the property during a couple of Singapore business trips. Mind you, those corporate stays were a few years back, as her big sister, the Four Seasons, was my primary SIN business travel hotel before purchasing a residence in our city-state. Will say, the fine staff at The Regent always treated me exceptionally well. On a couple of occasions, my corporate bookings were upgraded to executive suites with Regent Club access. Most enjoyable working stays at The Regent.

As for her location, not an issue for me. (One reason being my Regent business stays largely entailed taxis from the hotel to various office buildings; upon completion of working-day, taxis from office buildings back to the hotel.) Have always considered The Regent to be a fine SIN business / leisure hotel and at times, an exceptional value relative to the Four Seasons.

Normally conclude with a subtle promotion of our sensational Singapore Airlines. Rather, this morning in beloved Bangkok, will give the highest ongoing praise to a special Thai holiday, Loy Krathong. Privileged to first experience the occasion as rather young lad, travelling with my parents and siblings. Will be back at the Chao Phraya river with the loved one this evening for another round of timeless festivities.

Other Singapore questions, honoured to assist. Warmest Loy Krathong wishes to you and all from Bangkok,

robert
