skiing near tokyo before new years??
Hi! just booked a week in Tokyo - Boxing day to 3rd Jan.. want to go skiing 28th Dec-30th Dec.. can anyone suggest a good resort for a very good downhill skiier and a beginner (doesn't need lessons though) that is somewhat easily reachable from Tokyo. Also, where is it best to spend new years eve??? Any tips greatly appreciated...

No, I don't know the place. It is in Niigata prefecture, a little farther from Tokyo than Nagano, but not much further.

Gala Yuzawa resort is the one of the most famous ski resort and the name of its hotels in Yuzawa Onsen area in Niigata (Not in Nagano).
Gala Yuzawa resort was developed by JR East (Railway company) so you can reach hotel within minutes from railway station. Between Gala and Tokyo is only 75 minutes by Shinkansen. It is the best comvenient sky resort from Tokyo.
On the otherhand, it developed for families and fun skyer, if you are serious for skiing and/or loving for recing style, may be disappointment.
