Sri Lanka in 12 days
I just returned from a month long travel in Sri Lanka and South India.
I was in Sri Lanka for an intense 12 days and traveled all over the country. I went to the Cultural Triangle Anuradhapura, Mihintale, Pollonaruwa, Aukana, Habarana, Sigiriya and Dambulla renting a tuk-tuk and two cars, each for one day. It is hard to move fast in that part of the country without private transportation.
Further we used public transportation to Kandy, Adam's Peak that is quiet and experience and well worth the effort, to Ella and Yalla. From there we went for some beach well deserved relaxation on the Southern beaches to Tangalle, Mirissa, Galle and Negombo before flying out to Trivandrum in Southern India.
If you need more details please take a look at our blog at: http://flyingmonk.wordpress.com/category/sri-lanka/ that has lots of information about transportation, prices, hotels and many others.
Enjoy your travels!

Traveling could be exciting or frustrating depending on traveling journey you've experienced. However, if you are fully prepared for your traveling, then everything should be more enjoyable than miserable. Here are 15 useful traveling tips you must know before traveling overseas. I advise you to go over all of them before you plan your traveling journey. You'll be surprised how easy to neglect some of these traveling tips, and how important they are for ensuring a successful and enjoyable journey.

I'm fascinated to read your tips, Steeven, but sadly they seem to be absent.
monk - I've read the intro to your report - I'll obviously need longer to read the rest. How I agree with you about the friendliness of all the people!
one point, however, i did not agree about was the advisability of self-drive car hire. Perhaps your travels in India have made you less sensitive to traffic and road issues but for us "asian first timers" driving ourselves would have been a nightmare. our van and driver cost U$850 for 15 days, [including petrol] and we never stopped thanking our lucky stars that we had both.

Hi Monk,
I'm going on my honeymoon to Sri Lanka this December and wondering about charming beaches ideally with snorkeling. Any recommendations. We are in our 40's and live in Brooklyn, we're not looking to party and would love a place not overrun with tourists.
thanks for sharing.
