Fabulous photos, Pook.

Karen - only if you and Bob can stay at Amanjiwo?

kmkrnn Apr 18th, 2011 06:26 AM

Craig...ofcourse!

simpsonc510 Apr 18th, 2011 06:33 AM

Pook, your pictures are excellent,as always. You have an eye for photo composition! Great report also. Looked like Merapi might blow its top again?? Was that steam coming out? Maybe it's always present and I just don't realize that.

Kathie Apr 18th, 2011 07:09 AM

Thank you for the wonderful report and the lovely photos. The photos brought back wonderful memories of my time in central Java. I think the photos will convince Cheryl that we have to go.

Carol, as an active volcano, Mt. Merpati almost always has stream escaping. My photos from more than 20 years ago also show the steam rising from the crater.

rhkkmk Apr 18th, 2011 07:32 AM

i was thinking about joining brad later at the pickled at 1am when carol comes to town, but the old hawaiian sandman is on my back, so will have to see her tomorrow.

Bokhara2 Apr 21st, 2011 12:50 AM

Thanks Hanuman, loved your report and the photos are stunning.

Looks as if a great time was had by all!

Hanuman Apr 21st, 2011 05:41 AM

Thank you Bokhara2!

marmot Apr 21st, 2011 03:12 PM

Very nice report and wonderful photos. Indonesia is so photogenic (especially with a simpatico photographer)!

The next time some one asks me if the Amanjiwo is worth the $$$$ I'm going to refer them to you. Their no-bill-til-the-end policy is addictive, but you quickly lose count of what you're actually spending. They should have a defillibrator at the check out desk. :)

Hanuman Apr 21st, 2011 04:59 PM

Thank you marmot. Yes I was a bit scared when we were checking out of the Aman but at least I can brag to my friends that I have spent millions at the Aman!

simpsonc510 Apr 21st, 2011 06:06 PM

Hanuman, I'm catching up on your thread this morning. Hope things are going well for all of you. Thanks again for the fab photos! I agree with Bob... now I've 'been there' ! haha

(will we see you tomorrow at Tawandang?)

Hanuman Apr 21st, 2011 09:24 PM

Carol, we are going to Hua Hin for the weekend but if our plan changes we will be there!

pattyroth May 21st, 2011 11:18 AM

Okay, so I just now read your report and saw your photos! Lovely! Esp. loved the one of your girls jumping! Had no idea it is so beautiful there. And I agree--your photos are fab--incredibly clear and well done!

Hanuman May 21st, 2011 05:52 PM

Thank you Patty!

I skimmed a bit as I don't want to spoil some of the surprises if we do end up going. Pictures are truly amazing. No doubt the information is somewhere on the site but what camera are you using? UV filter? jpeg/tiff/RAW? I'm very curious :)
I suppose I should ask the "I'd probably prefer not to know, but should" cost question -- I remember lunch at Amankila in 2007 was $70 without any alcohol. That was about 20% over the Four Seasons so I'm thinking spa treatments are probably just as insane? Anything you could share, I'd appreciate.

Hanuman Oct 25th, 2011 07:37 AM

Hi jenskar2,

Camera used was a Canon 5D Mk 2 with a 24-70 F2.8 L lens. Shot all photos in RAW and processed with Capture One 6 Pro.

Cost per night was around $1,000 per night with only breakfast included but we bought a package with the Aman for 3 nights that included a lot of extras.

The spa was wonderful there. Treatment room was one of the villa and I had the 2 masseuse simultaneous massage treatment. Wonderful, perfect harmony and that is something I need right now!

Enjoy the area!

jenskar2 Oct 25th, 2011 10:36 PM

Thank you -- I saw the package and it sounded like a very good deal considering the individual night rate. I think that is what we're going to do if the rest of the Bali plan comes together. I will have to try shooting RAW -- have not ever and it looks like I've been missing something!
