Fabulous photos, Pook.
Karen - only if you and Bob can stay at Amanjiwo? |
Craig...ofcourse!
|
Pook, your pictures are excellent,as always. You have an eye for photo composition! Great report also. Looked like Merapi might blow its top again?? Was that steam coming out? Maybe it's always present and I just don't realize that.
|
Thank you for the wonderful report and the lovely photos. The photos brought back wonderful memories of my time in central Java. I think the photos will convince Cheryl that we have to go.
Carol, as an active volcano, Mt. Merpati almost always has stream escaping. My photos from more than 20 years ago also show the steam rising from the crater. |
what can i say....THESE ARE SIMPLY THE BEST, MOST CLEAR, MOST WELL POSITIONED PHOTOS I HAVE SEEN IN AGES....
thanks for sharing... now i don't need to go there because i have been there... bravo!! i especially love the photo of mony with the squiggles of colored lights... |
Thank you for sharing your glorious trip with us. I am going to make a second pass through the spectacular photos.
|
Wonderful report & photos. Thanks Pook!

|
Thanks Ken and the volcanoes were spectacular and luckily non of them blew up while we were there. BTW - Just sent you an email.
|
ok, got it. standing by to rock n roll.
i was thinking about joining brad later at the pickled at 1am when carol comes to town, but the old hawaiian sandman is on my back, so will have to see her tomorrow. |
I want the hotel and the camera too, LOL!
|
Thanks Hanuman, loved your report and the photos are stunning.
Looks as if a great time was had by all! |
Thank you Bokhara2!
|
Very nice report and wonderful photos. Indonesia is so photogenic (especially with a simpatico photographer)!
The next time some one asks me if the Amanjiwo is worth the $$$$ I'm going to refer them to you. Their no-bill-til-the-end policy is addictive, but you quickly lose count of what you're actually spending. They should have a defillibrator at the check out desk. :) |
Thank you marmot. Yes I was a bit scared when we were checking out of the Aman but at least I can brag to my friends that I have spent millions at the Aman!
|
Hanuman, I'm catching up on your thread this morning. Hope things are going well for all of you. Thanks again for the fab photos! I agree with Bob... now I've 'been there' ! haha
(will we see you tomorrow at Tawandang?) |
Carol, we are going to Hua Hin for the weekend but if our plan changes we will be there!
|
Okay, so I just now read your report and saw your photos! Lovely! Esp. loved the one of your girls jumping! Had no idea it is so beautiful there. And I agree--your photos are fab--incredibly clear and well done!
|
Thank you Patty!

I skimmed a bit as I don't want to spoil some of the surprises if we do end up going. Pictures are truly amazing. No doubt the information is somewhere on the site but what camera are you using? UV filter? jpeg/tiff/RAW? I'm very curious :)
I suppose I should ask the "I'd probably prefer not to know, but should" cost question -- I remember lunch at Amankila in 2007 was $70 without any alcohol. That was about 20% over the Four Seasons so I'm thinking spa treatments are probably just as insane? Anything you could share, I'd appreciate. |
Hi jenskar2,
Camera used was a Canon 5D Mk 2 with a 24-70 F2.8 L lens. Shot all photos in RAW and processed with Capture One 6 Pro. Cost per night was around $1,000 per night with only breakfast included but we bought a package with the Aman for 3 nights that included a lot of extras. The spa was wonderful there. Treatment room was one of the villa and I had the 2 masseuse simultaneous massage treatment. Wonderful, perfect harmony and that is something I need right now! Enjoy the area! |
Thank you -- I saw the package and it sounded like a very good deal considering the individual night rate. I think that is what we're going to do if the rest of the Bali plan comes together. I will have to try shooting RAW -- have not ever and it looks like I've been missing something!
