Singapore and Hong Kong Hotels

We will be in Singapore Jan 19-21 and are considering staying at the Shangri-La in a Tower Wing Deluxe Room. On Feb. 5-8 we will be a the Peninsula - Hong Kong in a Harbor View Tower room. Does anyone have experience with either of these hotel and accomodations? I would greatly appreciate any information and assistance.

Very good choices for both. Some people will say that the Shangri-La is not in the centre of things, that is true, you will take some cabs to get places, but cabs are cheap and the hotel is very nice so worth it. They have a nice pool and quiet green feeling which is hard to find in Singapore. Try to walk around the neighborhood a little bit, there are still some of the old colonial “black and white” bungalow houses in the neighborhood, try up Lady Hill Road and esp if you can get over to Nassim Road, walk up this road and you will find about half a dozen each in their own large garden. Now, that’s living in my book...(If you are at all interested in these, the place to really go see them is Goodwood Hill Road, a circular street just off Orchard Road behind the Goodwood Park Hotel that is lined with them, just beautiful; but not near your hotel. Sorry I am just crazy about them, I used to live in Singapore and they were just one of my favourite things.)

In Hong Kong, the Penn is the way to go. Ask for as high a floor as they can give you. Try the spa if you have time as it’s very good, make a booking if you are there on a weekend as its very popular with locals as well (I live in Hong Kong now). Great hotel, great history, great location. Ask to see the helicopter landing pad and waiting room, pure art deco.
