Singapore Accomodation for family of four
 

We're a family of four stopping over for two nights in Singapore on our way home to Australia from Europe. We are looking for a relatively central hotel that has family rooms for 4 (two double beds would even be OK as we have two daughters). Also looking for a 4pm check out if possible. From all my looking it seems we are going to have to take 2 double/twin rooms which is not really an economical way of doing it. I have one quote for AUD$600 for 2 nights but was hoping to stay a little cheaper. Our daughters are 13 and 15. Do any families out there have recommendations PLEASE?

The Four Seasons allows up to 2 children under 18 to share the parents' room at no extra charge. If you check in on a Friday or Saturday, their weekend special rates are excellent. Deluxe room SGD $295 plus tax, rate includes breakfast for 2. So you would pay SGD $590 for two nights, plus SGD $94.00 in tax and breakfast for your daughters (sorry, don't know the price), and you'd get to stay in a gorgeous hotel, too. That's under AUD $600 and you can book it without an agent.

If your stay isn't on a weekend, then the gorgeous hotel may not be possible, but there are plenty of other fine choices for less than what you are paying. M Hotel, Holiday Inn, Mandarin Oriental has some good package rates that might work, the YMCA, SHA Villa...many, many hotels in Singapore.

Thanks for the help! Unfortunately we will be staying Sunday and Monday nights so I guess the Four Seasons is unfortunately not an option. I'll keep looking but I think I may need to do some phoning. I am finding the net very frustrating. They ask how many people, I enter 4 and the searches keep coming back with maximum two in a room. I am sure a family room will be a more economical option, but I have not found one site yet listing them.

Send the hotels you like an e-mail to ask them about what they might offer your family. The internet booking engines on the hotel websites, and the various booking sites, do not adapt to out of the norm conditions.

If you go for 2 rooms then it's quite easy, though looking for 4 to a room is not so easy. I am wild guessing perhaps Jan/Feb ? rates can vary a little from month to month.

The Allson is a good 3 star near Bugis and very popular as a stopover hotel, that is about AUD 112 a night for a tiwn with buffet btreakfast incluidn tax and service, it has a swimming pool etc, it's a large 400 room plus hotel what I would call a standard to good 3 star for Singapore.

It's actualy cheaper than places like the Lanmark or Grand Central.

So 2 nights would cost you about AUD 448 for 4 with 2 rooms. So that save a lot from the outset. We have stayed at the Allson and it was fine.

AUD 112 is about SGD 126 and SGD 126 for somewhere like the Allson including tax and breakfast is a pretty good deal for Singapore.

If you are wanting something within the next 20 days that's different, then you can get some really cheap deals for rates to go but only of use if your entire stay is within the next 20 days, that you can find on Asiaoz too.

We also like the Crowne Prince on Orchard ( think maybe name has changed ) but the price would be higher, similar applies to places like the Elizabeth and York ( all those orchard Road area with the Crowne price being right on Orchard )

The mall and other shopping at Bugis is quite good ( above Bugis Street SMRT station )

As far as late check-out, that comes down to you most endearing 'smile', you can often manage 2 pm and if they offer 2 pm then I wouldn't push it much as that's quite reasonable, if you venture the offer of saying you don't need 'both' rooms and that one would do so that you can shower and change before heading to airport 'that' might get you a 4 pm quicker and easier than if they think you are wanting 'both' rooms until 4 pm, I would say 'offering' that as a suggestion that' Just one room would do us if you could manage 4 pm ' makes life easier for them and hence higher chance you will get it.

Thanks everyone - I have found I can get a Singapore Airlines stopover deal for AUD$376 for 2 rooms for 2 nights - and am thinking I will take one of the rooms for a third night to get the late checkout we need. This is for what they call a category A hotel (Allson, Albert Court, Furama Riverfront or City Centre, Golden Landmark, Peninsular Excelsior or River View). Good to hear the positive feedback on the Allson). Now I just need to choose the hotel - thanks for the feedback on teh Allson.

We used the Regent hotel last week and will be returning there in two days. Executive suite with sofabed and rollaway plus King bed was S$375. Nice hotel.

My family of six stopped over in Singapore for four days on the Australia to Europe and three days on the return leg. We stayed at the Betelbox Backpackers www.betelbox.com. It was very good for us as the proprieter, Tony, and his staff are very friendly, helpful and accomodating. The backpacker tag shouldnt put you off as I would describe it as more like a stop at a friends house for the weekend. We even had our own room, free internet etc and for $18 sg per night each including a light breakfast I found it value indeed. Its in Joo Chiat Road which is more in the old less touristy areas of Singapore and exudes character with terrific local food everywhere (ABC curry shop for excellent rotis and curry). The money saved staying here allowed us to enjoy much more of the local attractions and cuisine.
I have stayed at the main tourist district previously and I can not say anything bad about the experience. Sadly though but met no locals and after I was bored to bits with the shops I still ended up in Chinatown and the Indian quarter. Fabulous!
Oh and jumping onto a bus is great way to meet a few of the Singaporeans.
