Just returned from Singapore. Not terribly interesting city. Extremely clean, modern & friendly but with virtually no historic significance. Can't recommend it as a destination to visit.

No historical significance? I guess WW II was a minor misunderstanding...

With the exception of Sir Stamford Raffles back in 1819, Singapore has little in the way of either history or world involvement. It was an island known to be a haven for international spies and now is known for its multi ethnic cultures and peoples who live in harmony.That's fine but for museums or other significant landmarks there are none.

Fine, but not that many people travel across the world to see a museum or monument, unless you are talking majors such as Egypt, Great Wall of China, Taj Mahal etc. Singapore is great.

I always enjoy Singapore. Would I fly halfway around the world to go ONLY to Singapore? No. But I string together at least a couple of destinations when I go. I always enjoy the Asian Cultural Museum, the little museum at Raffles Hotel, and am looking forward to the museum at Empress Place being re-opened. The botanical gardens, including the largest orchid display garden in the world are wonderful!

Singapore is great, a true city of the 21st century. Great shopping, hotels, parks, culture and lots of greenery. Warm year around. Great place to visit for 3-4 days on the way to other places.

I enjoyed Singapore. As stated here, I would not make it an only destination for vacation time but it was a fun place to visit. I enjoyed hiking in the park with the monkeys and the night walk in the zoo was really interesting. Going out to the beach and ordering sea food was a lot of fun too. The main shopping street with all the trees acting as umbrellas for shade in that heat, were nice. Seeing the different cities within, as China Town and India Town, was fun too. We liked taking the boat up the river and dining along the river's edge. We also enjoyed going into Malaysia, which was a very cheap place to shop. I'd go back again. Myszka

I'll be in Singapore for 2 1/2 days during the second week in November. It's my first visit. Any advice on what to do?

There are plenty to see and experience in Singapore. You jsut need to know <BR>where to find them. <BR><BR>May I suggest: look up<BR><BR> www.the-inncrowd.com<BR><BR>

T. Sutherland: Go out to the Night Safari. Taxis take you both ways. Lots of fun.<BR><BR>The best food: the hawkers in the basement level of most of the shopping centers. Great experience.<BR><BR>Extremely clean city. Check out the Hindu temple, walk thru the markets with the wierd fruits. Sample everything. The people are marvelous. Everyone speaks English and will gladly help you.<BR><BR>Bring a travel umbrella. You never know.<BR><BR>Enjoy!

I loved Singapore. A walk down the main street that runs through Little India, visiting all the temples, sampling the fantastic food and revelling in the hustle and bustle took a whole day.

I've only been to Singapore once for a couple of days last year and I loved the place. So clean and safe. The food is staggeringly good - go to one of the hawker centers for a feast for very little. I have yet to meet a woman who has been there that did not love it for the shopping alone. Maybe not the place to spend 2 weeks, but for a couple of nights it is great. <BR><BR>Just a couple of warnings, it would seem everything in Singapore is relatively cheap bar 3 items. Cars, houses and booze. Cars and houses are of little consequence to the average tourist, but booze certainly is! Also not everyone speaks great English, I met plenty who didnt. Finally it would seem the weather varies from hot and wet to hot and very wet, with occasionally sun and monsoons interspersed.<BR><BR>Overall though I loved it, going back for 2 nights in a couple of months.

Singapore can be a great place to visit if you know exactly what to visit. It 's true that she doesn't have much historic places to visit. Maybe you can visit fort canning, it’s a great place, you can also get a nice view of Singapore city area. Sentosa is also another great place to visit especially the newly designed laser show. Simply wonderful….

I need info on Penang Malaysia

I spent 8 days in Perth last year, and though I had a good time it was not the most exciting place I have ever been to.<BR><BR>Good for relaxing and again eating some sensationally cheap and tasty food.<BR><BR>Places to recommend, the Kok Li Sek (I think that is what it is called) Monastery and go up the Funicular railway. The Snake Temple that all the guide books seem to recommend was a waste of time - A tiny place dingy place with a couple of drugged snakes.<BR><BR>Go into Batu Feringi and get a fantastic meal every night in the hawker centers for peanuts. <BR><BR>Overall the place is a little slow, and not exactly coming down with tourist attractions, but for lovely weather, nice fruit and food, it is not bad.
