Sim Card for India
Can anyone give me any information about buying a SIM card for an Iphone? I will be traveling for 5 weeks in both Rajasthan and Kerala.
Thanks! |
Is your iPhone unlocked? If so, you should be able to get an Indian SIM card just about anywhere. I think you'll need a copy of your passport and a passport-sized photo.
But it might be better to bring an old unlocked phone and not mess with your iPhone so you can receive emergency calls on your regular number. We just returned and used an old Blackberry with an Indian SIM - unbelievably cheap, great for local calls and texting, tapped into wifi everywhere. However, it didn't always work for receiving international calls. Used our US iPhones as well for receiving calls and texting (with data plan turned off). |
Thanks Crosscheck. Are you saying that you were not able to get international calls at all on that phone, even after you gave the appropriate Indian assigned number to your callers?
|
We did receive international calls most of the time, but there were a few times when callers could not get through and had to call us on our iPhones (US numbers). The service tended to work better at night - texting was more reliable.
We also used our US iPhones to call each other if we were separated and to receive calls from people who did not know our Indian number. |
It's also possible that certain callers did not have international plans and therefore had to use our US numbers.
