Silly Question about bug spray
This is probably a dumb question but DEET insect repellant is available in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Malaysia isn't it? Thanks in advance! Also, there is a malaria risk around Angkor, right?
|
siem reap is considered a malaria risk area...
i would not rely on finding deet type strays in the % that you want in those countries...i would bring mine from home to be safe... most tourists take malaria pills for cambodia... |
that is sprays, not strays, although you will find plenty of strays too...
|
If you are taking DEET, it is best not to bring a spray can, which is not supposed to be packed in your checked bags. We take Ultrathon lotion http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...thon/Products/
We applied it when we got to Angkor, and took Malarone.((*)) |
Ultrathon is good because it's one of the time-release lotions (Sawyer also makes a timed-release lotion). Whatever kind you buy, you want about 25-33% DEET. Anything higher and you simply increase your chances of skin irritation without increasing the repellant qualities.
|
Hi do you know if one can buy Ultrathon at a local Walgreens, etc? Leaving tomorrow so don't have time to order it...thanks

Check out http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34502876
and http://linktrim.com/5ed REI is listed as having it. I didn't check all the others. Best to call first. Good luck. |
many thanks Jed!

My favorite is a brand called Jaico and it's available in Thailand, but manufactured in Belgium, I think. It's 24% DEET and comes in a roll on bottle.
|
If you are going to REI, pick up a bottle of their Jungle Juice. It's great!
|
Is REI's Jungle Juice still 100% deet? If so, it is not recommended for application to skin.
