Silk Doona in Shanghai
Has anyone purchaced a Silk Doona or Duvet in Shanghai?
I have heard they are a must, I would like an idea of where to get them, how samll they pack and about how much to pay Thanks Sharon in Oz |
The lowest prices I've heard of in the Shanghai area are at the water towns. After negotiation we paid 300 rmb for a king size one. In the city they are sold at "silk factories" at really high, non-negotiable rates. I recall that the prices at the airport are lower. If I were to buy one in the city today I'd go to Shanghai's Hong Qiao Pearl City. I recall at least two shops there. It's at the corner of YanAn Lu and HongMei Lu. The shop should squish the duvet down and tie/band it so it's the depth of say a ream and a half of paper and it'll usually have a handle for carrying it. You may want to have a duvet cover made at the fabric market. My cost was be the price of the fabric plus 50rmb for sewing. I brought a pillow sham for them to copy too so they'd be the right size. That cost extra of course. As always, bargain hard!
In a stand-alone building out front of Pearl City is a place my friend buys golf gear. Suggest going for lunch on the pedestrian road across the street. Lots of variety. Enjoy! |
Thanks nagiffag, I wont get to the waterside towns but will go to Pearl City.
I have also been told to go to the Silk Museum, as you can rely on the qaulity there. Cheers Sharon |
