silk comforters

Do they sell those nice silk comforters in Thailand, like I have read they do in China? Or is it just too hot there for them to carry them?

pat,

The silk comforters in China are silk-FILLED. You can buy covers in 100% cotton or silk.

The cocoons are stretched and layered to form the filling, and the comforters are sold in various thicknesses and sizes. Even the lightest version is quite warm; I use mine in winter in the U.S., and find it warmer, lighter and less bulky than a down-filled comforter.

I bought mine in Suzhou, China, where they are widely available. I have actually bought several over the years, as gifts or on order for friends. The important thing is to measure your bed for the size you want, as the sizes there are not standard. My "queen-size" comforter just covers the top of my queen bed with a couple of inches over the sides, so if you want one to go longer over the sides, get a "king-size."

I'm afraid this doesn't answer your question of availability in Thailand, because that's outside my experience. But perhaps it will help travelers to China. Can anyone answer the Thailand question regarding silk comforters (besides the covers)?

Hmm, I'll be in Thailand soon...maybe I'll get another cover, custom-made. Thanks for the tip, rhkkmk!

I know I've seen signs saying "silk comforter" in Thailand, but I didn't look, being a down comforter person myself...

I think they're a lot more expensive than $80.00, at least they were when I last looked, which was some months ago.-more like $150.00 on up.

the shop i used was paya, which at the time was directly on sukhumvit around soi 53-55....they have since moved, but still in the same area but back into the sois....try looking in the phone book....they have tons of materials and i believe you could bring your own materials in there as well....just have exact measurements from home....they will not know your western size probably....many of the silk shops will also make things for you or refer you to someone who would...
