Siem Reap five star Hotel opinions
 

I would like opinions on these five star hotels: Hotel de la Paix, Le Meridian Angkor hotel, and Sofitel Royal Angkor Hotel.

all are fabulous

We stayed at the DLP. It was 5*++, very much over the top for Siem Reap - smaller than your other two options, if that makes a difference. Excellent restaurant, too.

We are traveling with another couple who has a reservation in Nov. at Raffles, however, we have been informed that the air conditioning has gone out and it will take a minimum of three months or longer to repair it. So both of us may want to stay at one of the above hotels.

We also stayed at the Hotel de la Paix. A different feel from the larger hotels...more boutique if you will. The Sofitel has a more American resort sense to it. We think the design of Hotel de la Paix is gorgeous, in an art deco meets Asia kind of way. Our only complaint is that the restaurant does not serve lunch (they have a little deli type area) If we returned to Siem Reap we would stasy there again.

I have to say that I wouldn't recommend Raffles even if the AC was working. It at least US$100 more than any other hotel in Siem Reap. Stay at a different lovely 5 star property and donate the difference...

Hotel de la Paix was one of the most beautiful hotels I've ever stayed at. The service was impeccable and the design of the place was absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, I became ill while in Siem Reap, but I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. I was not too impressed with the restaurant however. The dinner menu was not to my liking. They had outdoor swing tables for couples to sit on and dine. It was very unique and would be fine for breakfast, which was good.There is a lovely pool area and the spa services were wonderful.

ok, now that you mention it....I had a little difficulty with the Khmer food....we pride ourselves on eating anything and everything...I just had a hard time with the "local selections"...for the first time in my life, I dined on french fries in a foreign country (and a 5 * restaurant at that ). That being said, I wouldn't hestitate to return to that hotel...and one of these days I will post our pictures...(speak a thousand words about the beauty and serentity of the architectural design of that hotel.)

Check out the Angkor Foreign Correspondents' Club. I was in Siem Reap a month ago, and had several meals there. It also has an accommodation wings which reminded me of some of the Aman Resorts I have seen.

The food was great, and I checked out the rooms and facilities. It is also very well located.

I stayed at the lower end of the market in the Bopha Angkor, which I think was the nicest placed I stayed in during my 4 week Indo China trip. Very cute, great pool area, and good restaurant. It was $38US a night, and a 5 minute walk from the FCC, and had great atmosphere and ambience. The FCC is, of course, far more expensive.

We stayed at Sofitel, which was beautiful with a great pool. But there were a lot of tour groups. ((R))

Sofitel is one of the greatest places I ever stayed in. The hotel was brand new, food amazing, service impeccable. There must have been 10 people in the whole place.

Of course it was my first trip to a "developing nation" I decided I better stay at a top place to be "safe". it was unnecessary to be in something so luxurious but I am glad I did it anyway.
