Siem Reap car and driver recomendations?
 

I am traveling for Siem Reap this November to see the Angkor temples and wanted to know about any good car and drivers the we could hire for about 3 days?

We dont want a guide, just car and driver, and would prefer an airconditioned and safe car (no tuk tuk).

We could obviously go through out hotel but thought it might be best to arrange independently beforehand, is this a good idea?

As dogster says, just let your hotel set you up with a car and driver. They will have no problem getting you a driver with a safe air-conditioned car. There are lots of them.

Gopp, I think the others have traveled Southeast Asia quite a bit more, but when we went through Siem Reap, a Mr. Min Dara took us around in his taxi. It was airconditioned and clean. With a flight scheduled early in the morning to Bangkok, we had a limited time to see the temples and Dara was kind enough to take us to the most notable sites and meet us at an agreed upon time after we toured on our own. He speaks English well and gave us some background on the key areas in transit. We arranged to have him transport us to the airport the next morning and he was prompt and helpful. I personally think it is much better to arrange the AC car through your hotel. For one, there is no extra cost involved, the rate is $25 dollars a day whether or not your hotel books it for you. Secondly, if for some reason you don't like the service or person, you can easily switch without guilt! And, to stay on the hotel's good graces the driver will give you wonderful service! We stayed at Pavillion d'Orient and we loved the driver Sen who picked us up at the airport and requested him to be our driver for the entire 4 days. He was wonderful and sweet with the usual ice chest with cold towels and water and we tipped him generously at the end.
