siem reap
Will be spending 4 nights.
Should we splurge on Raffles? Is it worth it? Excellent location? I prefer hotels like Oberoi in India, Four Seasons in Bangkok, etc, as they are relaxed luxurious but not "snooty". Casual relaxed atmosphere where I don't need to dress up. Also considered Hotel De La Paix. I don't know the area, first time. Any help would be appreciated. |
Erly,
The hot place to stay for accomodation, food and location is the FCC........the foreign correspondents club....its young trendy and cool...check out the web site...my wife and I stayed there last year...if you are into "Wallpaper" magazine...this is the one....cheers mark |
Actually, the "hot" place to stay on the level with the Oberois is Hotel de la Paix - that would be your best bet.
|
My first foray on this forum was a question quite similar to yours posted last month. If you search SR it should come up. In the end I settled on HDLP.
|
location in SR really does not make any difference, imo...
de la paix seems to be the hottest upscale place in town...raffles is sort of old world....the pool area is fantastic however.... sofitel is nice too but 1/2 step below in class |
I wouldn't stay at Raffles. If you want luxury choose one of the newer places, Hotel de la Paix, Shinta Mani or FCC.

We stayed at the Raffles and our family will stay there this December. We are not going back because Siem Reap is just too hot. The other recommended hotels are fine. But we loved the huge pool area of the Raffles. The bedrooms were spacious, nice bathrooms, patio or balcony. The bar/lobby of the hotel was lively, the food was good. In general, the hotel was dependable. It was not the experience of a lifetime. The Raffles still costs more than the others. It's nice to have a choice.

Erly,
We are planning on traveling to Seim Reap for 3 nights and we have the same preferences for hotels as you do. After a lot of researching I think I am going to book the Hotel de la Paix. I looked at the Raffles as well but style wise I prefer the Hotel de la Paix. On another note, are you taking any health pre-cautions such as Malaria or Hep. A? Have a great holiday and please let me know if you have had any medical advice. Thanks! |
For traveling to Cambodia, you should have routine traveler's vaccines, tetanus (which you should have to stay at home) Hep A (likewise), measles-mumps-rubella, typhoid. Siem Reap is a malarial risk area.
Take a look at www.cdc.gov/travel and do your research before you talk with a travel med doc. There have been lots of posts about travel med issues, do a search here. |
thanks all.
My hubby takes all precautions, I have never. I might do the malaria. We will definitely book Hotel de la Paix. |
