Side trips from Taipei

My husband and I will arrive in Taipei in December for 3 1/2 days, before our sons can join us for the latter half of our vacation which is 6 days.

We are planning to do Taipei, Jiufen, Tamsui and maybe Beitou with our sons during the later half of 6 days.

What side trips from Taipei can the 2 of us consider for the first 3 1/2 days, with the Dec weather in mind? We will land in Taoyuan in the early afternoon, and can take the train to a new destination immediately, if it is available from the airport. We have been to Taroko Gorge, Hualien, Sun moon lake and Aboriginal village before and don't want to do this again. We are in our 60's , and not keen on doing too many steps or steep inclines, but are ok with gentle hiking trails. Our interests are food, scenery, and culture.

Thanks

I'll be interested in the responses to your question, CahayaMalaysia, as I'm thinking about Taiwan for a first-time visit.

Me too, I am looking at Taiwan for next year.

Have you been to Tainan? That's where I started my visit to Taiwan and I loved it. The temples are authentically old and have lots of atmosphere. You can take the high speed train.

Thanks, thursdaysd.

I have decided to do Taichung and Nantou and Lugang this trip.

Will leave Tainan, Kaoshiong and Kenting for another trip
