Side Pocket Bar in Bangkok

How many pool tables does it have? Maeng still cook garlic shrimp for you?

rhkkmk May 28th, 2012 07:32 PM

i believe it is closed.. there were 3 or 4 tables

rayong May 28th, 2012 07:56 PM

That is a shame. I feared that when the Pickled Liver had to move from Soi 11.

simpsonc510 May 28th, 2012 10:38 PM

Yes, Maeng has had to close. I'm not sure where she will be cooking next. Her garlic shrimp was always a treat.

PL on soi 7/1 is doing OK but not like things were on soi 11. It's a shame.

Rayong, if you want to play pool in a fun atmosphere, have you tried Players (very close to Sheraton Sukhumvit/Asok station) or how about Sports Academy (upstairs at a building almost directly next door to the new Sofitel Hotel on Sukhumvit, in a purpleish building..Ruamchit...there is also a place on the first floor as you go up the entry stairs but we have not played there). I think both places will have food... catered? You order what you want and they go get it, maybe? Players is more 'serious' than Sports Academy; both have good tables. Then there is the pool place in the basement at Time Square.. the name escapes me right now. A much more 'serious' place to play your game.

Thank you for the pool info. Starting a new business is tough, but I was rooting for her. So, she has no connection to the PL anymore?

simpsonc510 May 29th, 2012 10:41 AM

No more connection to PL at all. I'm not sure they are on speaking terms.

rayong May 30th, 2012 07:52 AM

Well, if she could not make a go of it, then I am reminded again not to entertain any idea of investing there.

simpsonc510 May 30th, 2012 12:55 PM

Definitely NO to investing there. A family member was part owner of a business, and there were problems. The family member did get back money that was invested... that was sheer luck.

Maeng knew how to keep PL supplied and running smoothly, but I don't think she was prepared to go it alone. It was a huge investment for her, and it did not pan out the way she had hoped it would. But she really wanted to give it a try.

Did you meet "rayong" there Carol? Was it Brad that own a part of the PL?

simpsonc510 May 31st, 2012 04:06 AM

None of us were never investors in PL, Hanuman.
I have not met Rayong in BKK.

simpsonc510 Jul 21st, 2012 06:53 PM

There are new owners of Side Pocket. The name was not changed. The place looks to be busy! Live music? Probably same 2-3 pool tables. No Maeng though.

rayong Jul 21st, 2012 08:59 PM

Carol, I noticed that last month, but did not go inside!
