Should we take the train from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur?

My DH and I are going to Singapore, Bali, and Kuala Lumpur for 2 weeks in September. We will be flying Singapore Airlines nonstop from Los Angeles, connecting with another SQ flight on to Bali, where we will spend 3 days with son and wife. They will return to KL(their home), and we will fly back to Singapore to spend a couple of days during the week while he is working. We will then make our way to KL, where we will spend the next 5 or so days.
We have been to KL 3 previous times, but have never done more than pass through the airport in Singapore, so we want to sightsee for a couple of days. Question is, is the train from Sing to KL interesting enough to spend the time, or are we better to arrange a flight? Thanks for any input, Barb

I personally haven't done it although I have thought about it. I think it would be nice if you have the extra time. But the flight only takes 45 minutes and it's nice to fly over those huge rubber trees(?). Happy Travels!

Barb, there's nothing much to see on Spore-KL rail route bcoz the tracks are mostly fringed by urbanized areas. But if it's KL-Penang, then it's worth taking the ride bcoz the tracks cut across wonderful wetlands, rainforest, lakes and quaint villages. Take the flight.

I’ve done Singapore to KL three times by train and as the previous poster said, its not a very exciting trip.

Take one of those VIP Express buses that ply Singapore-KL. It's cheaper, more comfortable, takes less time (5hrs by bus vs 7-8hrs by train), saves you the hassle of travelling to and fro airports AND you can catch a bit of scenery (mostly palm oil estates viewed from the highway). Only thing is you should avoid too much luggage.

www.aeroline.com.sg offers one of those buses and tickets can be booked online...it's double-decked, comes with a meal and screens movies. There are other coach companies of course.

Some of the other buses offer massage chairs. Great way to travel! :D

please please please skip the KTM train... i've sat in it many times since my youth... and it hasn't improved since i first travelled on it 27 years ago...

by all means take one of the newer coaches from Beach Road. They have wide seats, and the journey from Beach Road over here to KL city is about 5 hours max with at least one stop for toilet break along the malaysian highwa.. you'll see the natural plantations with this route but don't expect much out of it... most highways around the world are more or less the same...

air travel isn't cheap and you'll probably shave off just a little bit... don't forget, the time taken to check-in and taxi to your hotel...?

I took the Transtar bus from Singapore to KL. Booked the 5 hour bus ride online at www.transtar.com.sg. The ride was fantastic – with large massaging chairs, individual LCD monitors with numerous channels, and lunch. We chose the bus over flying b/c of the price. If you're tight on time a flight will take you 3 hr (check in time, flight, & getting luggage) vs. 5 hr bus ride. I think the bus ride was $30 per person - great price!
