Sheri, I would suggest 'Central Village' between the Hilton and Sofitel. It is not a very good beach area but you have bungalow accommodation which is nice. Kaban Tamor is new but has claimed a position of fame already, the photos are enough to tempt. I would not suggest the Majestic, very much package group hotel and the beach isn't good at all. Hyatt is well designed with a very Thai style to it. Although the Marriott is quite good it is not what you would call a 4+/5 star property. The Sofitel is a clear 5-star of amazing design and famed for excellent service. The Marriott is not on the same level as the Sofitel. The Hyatt I would say is 4+/5 star level. If you want a local hotel list then www.thailand-holidays.8k.com has photos and links to all these.

I stayed at the Anantara, in a Lagoon room last December. It was wonderful. The lagoon buildings are all new and are beautifully done. The beach is merely ok, but the lagoon rooms have a small and lovely pool they share.
