Should I rent a cell phone in Japan?

My friend and I will be in Japan in May and would like to rent a cell phone while we're there. I've seen some U.S. sites that will rent them here, and heard you can rent them in Narita. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best/most affordable option?

Thank you!

I recommend Rentafone Japan. I found out about it on this site, through emd (you should read her trip reports for lots of useful tips). I ordered it online before I left and it was waiting for me when I arrived at my hotel in Tokyo. They provide a stamped addressed envelope, and I all I had to do was put it in a mailbox before I left Japan.

Rentaphone worked great for us on our last Japan trip. Got one for DH and I (he was on a bus trip) and one for our 19 year old son who was off on his own for part of the trip. Phones waiting for us at the hotel without a problem and when DH and I forgot until too late at the airport that we needed to mail the pouch back we just sent it back via FedEx...not suggested but no other choice. I heard it is a hassle to use the Narita location and unless you have to make a call as soon as you land it seems easier to wait until you check in.
