JAL, $1600 for July travel

You don't say where you are traveling from. Yet, even from the US East Coast that seems on the high side, unless you must fly JAL, which always seems to go for a premium.

Currently, on Kayak, there are July flights from NYC to NRT for about $1,100, on both Delta and American, non stop. Good luck.

Tienes hambre? Por que??

I am flying from Boston. American costs about $1400 to Tokyo but I want to fly to Osaka.

That is steep. Keep looking.

If you are really flexible I would wait a bit......maybe all the way down to 3 to 4 weeks before you leave. Check daily for price changes and trends. IMHO a good price from your area now a days is $1100.00 all in

Be on the lookout for specials like these from your area

Check Asian travel agents in your town for specials on airfare. You can sometimes get a room for a few nights included this way. If you are willing to do the legwork, you should be able to get a better price with persistence, tenacity and a lot of patience. Good luck!

Aloha!

Too much! (for me)

mrwunrfl Jan 31st, 2009 12:08 PM

Agree with ht that 1100 would be good.

What dates?

puttakka Feb 2nd, 2009 05:46 AM

Thanks so much for your advice!!! I will wait.

We are flexible with the dates but would like to go between June 27-July 11 ideally. We realize that this is peak season but my husband has to accrue vacation time.

I have seen good deal from the booth at the Mituwa dept store in New Jersey. It could be a one time thing.
The website is http://www.jtbusa.com/en/default.asp
Good Luck.

OK, so I found a GREAT itinerary on American, Boston-Tokyo, June 24-July 8, for $1200. Should I wait or book it?

hawaiiantraveler Feb 2nd, 2009 02:21 PM

In three days you have saved $400.00. Patience, persistence.....

mrwunrfl Feb 2nd, 2009 10:08 PM

To KIX for $1200? I might take it. What are the rules if the price drops?

mrwunrfl Feb 2nd, 2009 11:20 PM

Is that really peak season? I think it is hot/humid/rainy at that time. When is typhoon season?

dlai Feb 2nd, 2009 11:29 PM

I have the same dilemma/question but in the reverse: looking for tickets to the US West Coast from Tokyo. The best price I've seen so far is still about 1400-1500 USD (on United)for June (return in August). Last year, It was a few hundred cheaper and so I'm waiting to see if airfares go down a bit in March (as they did last year and as a travel agent here said they would). Not sure for the US-Japan route.

From my experience, 1200 sounds like a great deal-we've never paid less than that from the West Coast but maybe it's different from NY and Boston.

dlai Feb 2nd, 2009 11:31 PM

PS: Forgot to say that Typhoon season usually is more like August/Sept. but the summers are rainy and humid and hot.

July is probably considered peak because it is summer and a vacation period.

puttakka Feb 3rd, 2009 06:45 AM

No, it's not KIX, it's to and from Tokyo, and it's not JAL, it's American.

I'm on the fence - I don't think we will go much lower than $1200, all taxes included, from Boston, right?
