Shorts??
We leave in less than a week, so I better start packing! When can we wear shorts? Is there anywhere that we will truly feel comfortable or should I plan to wear pants/skirts the whole time in BKK, CM, CR. I guess in Krabi shorts will be ok....Pants in the 90's seems painful...

Shorts are fine at resorts.
Actually, light pants or skirts will keep you cooler than shorts because it protects your skin from the direct sun. |
you can wear shorts anywhere if you want....
i personally feel that being in any religious place, any royal place and any nice/decent restaurant, it is inappropriate to be wearing shorts...i would not feel comfortable....long pants/skirt are never inappropriate... added to this i prefer to keep street grime and river water off of my legs.... plus pants shield you from the very hot sun... shorts are great around seaside resorts and the like |
Typically, you will be stopped from entering a wat if you are wearing shorts.

I bring one pair of pants for when we go out to a nice place for dinner, other than that I am in shorts the entire trip! My wife only wears pants. Also we are not big on the wat/temple scene and always stay at the MR&S and shorts are fine there.
This year I think my wife will probably wear shorts because the finishing touches are just now done on her thai themed tattoo that covers her leg :) yes we are young and crazy. |
Regular shorts are okay. The fact that you actually care to ask for advice shows you would probably be okay anyway.
I have been in and out of SEAsia for well over 20 plus years and I almost always come across some stupid women tourists (farangs) walking around town looking like street hookers and tramps. These female tourists would be frowned upon even back in their own countries. You can keep a thin wrap-around skirt in you bag for entering wats and temples. Good luck |
Thanks for the help. We will bring both and see with which we feel most comfortable. As long as we have plenty of room to bring treasures home!!

I am luck enough to be married to an expert suitcase packer, and on our last bkk trip she was able to fit everything in one smaller suitcase each, we then put the small bag inside a large empty bag. On the way home we now had 2 big empty bags to fill with all the stuff my wife bought! Also try to bring some bubble wrap!
