Shopping in Bangkok?

Hello,
A group of us are planning to travel to Bangkok next year and Ive heard that shopping in the city is fantastic. Is that true or have the people Ive been talking to been exaggerating?
I would also really appreciate general info on the city.

Thanks a million
Siobhan

I suggest you search this site and request the two trip reports from "Lynn", a frequent poster here. She and her husband have visited Bangkok twice and have taken shopping there to another level.

If you're looking for small asian-theme items for your house, don't miss the weekend market. It is HUGE - it's even on the regular maps, and anyone will be able to tell you how to get there. We found the prices there to be even lower than in Chiang Mai, which is contrary to standard guidebook rumours. The prices at the weekend market are MUCH lower than in similar shops downtown.

Don't forget to take the opportunity to have a suit (or three) made for you. Unbelievable prices, wonderful fabrics, and great tailors.

Hi Siobhan
Was in Bangkok xmas through to newyear 01/02 the place is amazing, Watch out for tours although good, they have a tendency to drop you of at some jewely making factory,The heat at any time of year is well over the 80s,I would advise any astma sufferers to take advice before traveling,The grand palace is a real eye opener and the way the royal family conduct themselves, people warm and frendly, food is exelent and extremely good value for money, I would get their asap you won't regret it
Cheers Neil
