Shopping in Bali

Hi

Never been to Bali before even though I live in WA. My daughter is wanting to get her graduation ball dress made in bali along with various other items of teenage clothing, I have pictures and measurements, can anybody recommend any dressmakers/tailors?Thanks in advance for any comments

Staying at the Kumala Pantai in Legian for 7 nights, intend visiting Ubud and other areas of Bali though. Been reading all the comments on Bali in the Forum, you seem to know the place pretty well from all your responses, any recommendations on places to visit would be well received.

I haven't been to Bali but hope to this year. I have been looking at another forum
http://www.balitravelforum.com/
this has more info than you will ever need on Bali and a great search engine.

of course the area in and around ubud is unbelievable for general shopping..loads of shops...the shops we liked the best however were away from the general shopping areas, like the kite factory and the basket shop just outside the gate to the town of Tengengun (may be spelled incorrectly---it is the town of the original bali settlers---like US indians)...prices are unbelievably cheap....we also liked sanur for shopping...small shops...same to some degree in ubud, but it was more commercialized and tourist oriented..

Bali is not known for dress-making or tailoring. There are batik shops where you can have clothing made, but these are not along the lines of a ball gown, but rather casual clothing. You may be able to find someone to make a ballgown, but you may have difficulty finding the kinds of fabric you want. You would have no difficulty in Singapore, Bangkok or Hong Kong (Bangkok would be cheapest) but it may well be a problem in Bali.
