shopping for necessities in Bangkok
 

Hello all:
We are presently living and teaching in China. We will be heading to Thailand for our Spring Festival break in February.
While we can get most things here there are some hair products that I can't find. How is Bangkok for upscale hair salons and products? Has anyone any recommendations on hairdressers they have used.

Please advise on how much u think is reasonable to pay for your hair. The best Bkk based guy I know is in Thonglor not far from the skytrain stop and charges a whopping 7000 baht for a cut and colour. Another good guy Franck is opposite Emporium in Suukhumvit I think Soi 33 or Soi 35 - charges 1000 baht for a trim. I think most hair products are available in Bkk though I do not recall seeing Bumble and Bumble. Emporium or Central Chitlom are good places to go - then if you exceed the VAT limit by buying everything at one place you can even complete VAt formalities and get your duty back at the airport.

hobbes is correct that whole area is where the hi-so, turn themselves from ther natural dark skined selves too the upstanding pearly white elite.

lol I was charged 300 baht in MBK and I went home cursing like a sailer..

most anything you want in hari care is available in bkk....we have used the salon at the peninsula in the past..

I have been to Toni and Guy salon in Siam Discovery and had a color and trim with good results. I have also been to Hair Decor in Siam Discovery and liked the haircut and color I got there,too.

When I go to Hair Decor, I usually get the works... hair, fingernails, toenails, at the same time! The price is very reasonable.

I had an interesting conditioner at Hair Decor once. They put two little bottles of expensive conditioner (can't recall the name) on my longish hair and then put a plastic bag over it for about 30 minutes, under a dryer. My hair felt WONDERFUL after that! Must do that again sometime in the future.
