Here is a related, somewhat silly question:

If I buy DVD's in China, will I be able to watch them on my US tv set? (Are the systems compatible?)

No problem. Hope it helps.

DVDs will usually work well on cheap players but sometimes the same disk won't work on an expensive player. There are two levels: DVD5 (~6RMB) and DVD9 (~10-15RMB) and usually come in a DVD case. 5's are sometimes taped by someone in a movie theater, which is usually adequate. Sometimes they'll be in Russian but you only need to keep choosing languages until you find english. US is zone 1, but I don't know that you can really know what zone is inside and you can't necessarily trust the packaging. You may end up with a few that don't work or have the wrong movie inside.
