A few years ago, we stayed at the Shaxing International Hotel (Shaoxing Guoji Dajiudian) and were very, very happy with that hotel (prices were extremely reasonable with no sacrifice of quality).

There's a fantastic restaurant up at the top and we asked for a recommendation for a local wine to go with the dinner. We were so pleased with the wine that we brought a bottle of it home.

Shaoxing, if you didn't know it already, is famous for its wine, especially the one that is used in cooking. We found out that they make wonderful drinking wine as well!

There's a wonderful short trip out of town from Shaoxing. It's to the literary-famous Orchid Pavilion (Lan Ting) and to a tomb that is over 2500 years old. We were the only people at the tomb and we had to walk the last mile or so to the tomb, through wonderful tea plantations. The tea plants were so green! The countryside was so beautiful! The Orchid Pavilion had few visitors and it was wonderful to feel how these gardens were intended to be - private, quiet places without hordes of tourists. Highly recommend this out of town short trip!

Thanks, easytravaeler for your recommendations. We hope our hosts have the time to take us to the Orchid Pavilion. We already decided on the Xianheng Hotel as per Susan's advise.
