Shangi-La or Banyan Tree

We're undecided between these two hotels in Bankok, any suggestions?

My suggestion is always to stay by the river. That means, between the two you mentioned, the ShangriLa would be best. Being on the river gives an entirely differnt feel to a hotel, and makes it convenient to take the water taxi.

ShangriLa Club floor is extra special. Highly recommend it, even over Oriental.

I agree with Elainee-The Shangri-La is a very good choice. Request a room overlooking the river on the Executive level-they have some overlooking the city! Free drinks & nibblies all day & wonderful wine & canapes at night. We paid US30 per night for the upgrade - great value.

Thanks so much for the replies, we'll certainly stay at the Shangri-la. We have a room reserved in the Krung Thep wing.

both are great hotels...i prefer the river locations so the sh-la is my pick...we stayed there twice earlier this month and it was quite nice...

the banyon tree's location is not my favorite (in the middle of the hi-rise business district) so i prefer to go there only to eat on occasion...
