Shanghai -breakfast near Le Royal Meridien?

We are staing at Le Royal Meridien in Shanghai at the end of August and can't decide whether to book a room including breakfast or not. The additional cost for breakfast is RMB 150 so it may be worth it but normally we prefer to eat as little as possible in the hotel. Are there places where we could get a quick breakfast (Chinese or western) near the hotel?
Thanks in advance.

Your hotel is in "tourism central area", turn left or right and you will encountering a mind-boggling selection of eateries.

Agree--the hotel breakfast is overpriced. It is good, however.

Step right outside the main entrance and look across the pedestrian street leading off Nanjing Road; there are a few western-style coffee shops that serve breakfast. Around the corner, toward the park, there is a chain bakery called (I think) BreadTalk. OR, walk a few blocks for some of the best dumplings in the city. I have details of the latter places in my trip report:

Thank you both for these responses. I'm still not sure what to do as ekscrunchy 's trip report made the hotel breakfast sound so good.

You may book a room without breakfast included in the room rate, and then just pay for breakfast separately at the hotel for one morning only, that way you'll get to experience the hotel's breakfast once, but still leave opportunities in other days to sample (smaller) breakfast elsewhere. It will be more expensive to buy breakfast separately from the hotel, but some hotels give hotel guests a slight discount for buying breakfast separately.

Those big hotel breakfast, although abundant, would leave me full without room for lunch. Therefore no matter how appetizing the eateries I passed by later in midday, I had no room for it.
