It's some sort of a cooperative venture run by Chinese in the states and in China. We chose them because they accepted credit cards and had a local contact here as well as in China. We figured if they didn't come through with tickets, etc. we would have the credit card protection. We booked some hotels and drivers ourselves and they booked all domestic flights, some hotels where they could get better rates than we could, as well as some drivers.

Used ctrip for our internal airline tickets last trip. Also used this site for internal train tickets and personal guide services and transport in Xian. We hired them for pickup at train station then day tour which included Terracotta Warriors and transport to airport the next morning. While we were in Xian we negotiated a price for dinner and Shanghai acrobat show which was fantastic but since you will be in Shanghai too maybe not......

You can easily book internal flights online on ctrip.com; travelzen.com; elong.net
You can also book hotels on those sites or on www.wotif.com

When you use ctrip and elong its best to buy the tickets at about the 8 week mark before your travel. Check flight prices 8 weeks from now and earlier to see what your prices will be like at the time of your actual travel dates. Don't worry, the Chinese buy tickets at the last minute and there are a billion or so of them so they won't run out of tickets beforehand. Happy New Year!
