Serviced Apartments?

I am really ignorant on this one -- but what is a "serviced apartment"?

It's an apartment with daily (or every other day) maid service, clean towels, sheets, etc. It's nice to have the space you get in an apartment. I like having a livingroom and sep bedroom. The kitchen has a few dishes and a few appliances, like toaster, hot water pot for coffee/tea. I really like staying in serviced apts in BKK.

Thanks! Are they available for short stays of one or two days, or are they usually for longer visits? I don't know why I've never come across the term before, except on this site... We stayed at such a place on Maui for a week or two, but I don't recall it being called a "serviced apartment".

or in my case it's a smallish studio (kind of looks like a down market hotel room.. it has fredge. satalite tv, huge bed, bathtub, balcany, maid service, swimming pool, resterant etc.. all his for less then $300 a month..

I've rented for a week or two at a time, but we saw people coming and going who were only there for a few days, I'm sure.

I stayed at Omni Tower this past Feb for two weeks. There was a group of models from India doing a photo shoot. I think they only stayed for about 3 days.

Omni's location is not as good as some of the service apts. Grand President is probably better located. I stayed there for about 3 weeks last summer.

Son always rents for at least a month. If he goes to Samui of Phuket or CM, he can just leave his stuff in the apt and carry a small carry-on bag for a couple of days on short trips.

Should have mentioned, I think you save money by renting by the month.

We've stayed for 3-4 days at a time. Centre Point Silom let us leave our luggage (no charge) while we went down to the islands for a week. Stayed 2 more night upon our return before flying out.

Also, the rooms we stayed in there were quite luxurious, with large marble bathroom, washer/dryer, full kitchen, etc. Great value for the price!
