When I took the boat ride we stopped frequently to visit villages and since it was 20 years ago they weren't touristy. We also had a guide who brought scotch and wine with him (there were 4 of us) so we had a great time.

ok thanks to all the wonderful advice here - here's what we're doing.
Day 1: on our in CM. we can get Baan Orapin to get us a car and driver and we can easily go up to Doi Suthep using this car. We can defly walk into town and see the temples ourselves.
Day 2: we'll use Kai for the tribal village hike and elephant camp.
Day 3: we'll taxi from CM to Tha Ton and pick up a private boat ride for $47. i"m sure i can read up on villages to stop on the way?? since we won't have Kai with us. we want to go on the boat ride because the scenery is supposed to be beautiful. Any luggage constraints?
When we reach CR, how much is a taxi ride to Anantara? i know its an hour away from the city. Any clue?
And a taxi ride from mChang Mai to Tha Ton?
Thanks so much for the info on the boat ride costs!

Hi.. Vacation03
If 7,800 b/person is Expensive, we did a package tour with Chiangmai Tic travel by Ittiphon for our 3 days trip. They charged us only 5,800 b/person for all included, but we pay for accommodation by ourself, if anyone interesting to get a best service with them let's check at http://www.chiangmaitic.com/Chiangmai_packages.htm , you will see all and you can choose the package that you want or E-mail them at [email protected]
Best services and best guide.
Regards,
