MUMBAI/Dharavi-slum tours-Reality Tours
thinking of traveling to india this february. The people I am using who are based in northern india: saying it is too danagerous. I have read about this also in Frommer's India which refer to Reality Tours that do this. Has anyone done this?

Too dangerous? Sounds like you have been given some misinformation, I took my kids of a similar tour and we loved every second of it. Was an amazing experience and never felt threatened or uncomfortable, in fact we were always greeted with smiles and "photo please".

I did this tour on Tuesday of this week through a group called Be The Local http://www.bethelocaltoursandtravels...slum_tour.html This was founded by two students who grew up in Dharavi and still live there. The young man who hosted us spoke excellent English and was very knowledgable.
I felt very safe, though the tour exposes you to a way of living very very different than what we're used to. No photos were allowed. It was a sobering experience. You'll want to wear casual clothes and walking shoes.
