Self-Catering flats - Tokyo
My family (2 adults, a 6 year old and a 4 year old) is travelling to Tokyo during the summer 2005. We are planning to stay one (1) month. Has anyone had experience with a vacation rental firm in Tokyo that would be able to lease a furnished flat to us. We have seen websites for Oakwood Apartments, but wonder if there are any other.

Based on comments by others on this forum I believe that the Mansions at Roppongi might be what you are looking for. I read somewhere that the Japanese use the word "mansions" when they are referring to "apartments". |
If you do a web search for "serviced apartment tokyo" you'll find loads. Oakwood and Mori are frequently used by big companies to house short term Tokyo based employees. There are also "gaijin" houses that are basically rooms in a building, with shared bath and kitchen. There is little demand for vacation rental, as Tokyo isn't really a place families go for holiday, but you should be able to find something suitable in a hotel, serviced apartment or perhaps a gaijin house.

Thank you for your help. We booked the major flights last night so we know exact dates for apartments.

You can consider "Somerset" Roppongi. I stayed a week there 2 yrs ago. I stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment which was small but well planned, clean and efficient. The Somerset is part of the Ascott Group which provides higher quality apartment living as an alternative to hotels.
The apartment is quite well located, within walking distance of the underground station. |
