Self-Catering flats - Beijing & Shanghai
My family (2 adults, a 6 year old and a 4 year old) is travelling to China during the summer 2005. We are planning to stay one (1) month each in Shanghai and Beijing. Has anyone had experience with a vacation rental firm in either town that would be able to lease a furnished flat to us.

Many of the expat compounds can rent apartments. I live at one and it is publicly advertising 1 and 2 Br apartments for 90-130 US$ night. At the same price as a hotel, I wouldn't consider anything else.
Make sure you have a pool. Do a web search for the Ascott or somerset or East Lake Villas. Deal direct with the managements/leasing..don't let a realtor interfere.

You might want to take a look at Shanghai Centre (www.shanghaicentre.com). I've not stayed there yet but it's in a nice area and attached to the Portman Ritz Carlton where you can find many convenient shops/services. It looks very nice, albeit a bit pricey.
