SAS 55th Anniversary

I am an allum class of 76 and wish to get info on SIN. If you are an alumni or have a suggestion please respond. I am most interested in travelers who have travelled to SIN in a wheelchair. Seems that the MRT will be the easiest transport mode. Budget for hotels is 150-250sgd. Guenmai, feel free to respond your posts are very helpful

If you are talking about the Singapore American School 50th Birthday Celebration, there is a whole website about it.....http://alumni.sas.edu.sg/.
The school has reserved blocks of rooms at both the York Hotel and the Goodwood Park and there are lots of events planned for that week in April.
If you have special needs with regard to travel, I am sure if you contact the Development Office via the website, they can help you.
I am not an alum, but I have one child who graduated and another who is still at SAS. I'll try to answer specific questions if you post them.

Thanks Lindsey for your kind reply. I have been in touch with the school and they have inquiries out to both hotels. I am hoping that another chair user will reply about SIN and getting around town and some suggestions regarding hotels, thanks bill

Bill,
I can tell you that one of the major events of the week is a big dinner/dance at the American Club which is fully accessible.
A friend mine has just moved her mother here and she uses a chair, so they are fairly aware of the various obstacles around town. If you have some particular places in mind, I could check on accessibility for you, either through my friend, or if I am in the neighborhood, I can do a little reconnaissance.
There is also a very good website called www.visitsingapore.com. There is a link there (http://www.visitsingapore.com/publis...hysically.html) that tells about access to various attractions here for the physically challenged.

Hope that helps. Let me know if there is anything else I can check on for you. Look forward to welcoming you to the big 50th Birthday party.

Lindsey, Thanks for your help and I am glad to know that we will meet at the bash, I plan to wear a tux, or will a suit be more appropriate? I am going to stay at the Hyatt. They have renovated in 2004 so the rooms should work well. If you have an opportunity to do a bit of snooping feel free. What about the Hawker stalls at Newton circle? I take it you travel to SIN often? Cheers!

Bill, Actually I still live here and as an active parent at SAS, I am involved with planning a number of the events for the 50th birthday.
I have not been to Newton lately, but my oldest daughter loves to go there with her friends. I will check with her on accessibility. I do know Newton underwent a major renovation about a year or two ago.
BTW, none of the events for the 50th are black-tie. You will be perfectly fine in a suit.

Lindsey-Sorry I missed that you were a parent. Good to know that Newton circus is alive and kicking. I also hope to visit the church I attended. It was a huge Presbyterian church, I do not remember the name. Any ideas? I lived at the Methodist Mission Hostel on Farrer Rd. Is it still there? Could you reply via my email? It's in my profile. I have read in a guide that the Ritz has larger HC rooms. What is the local review of the Hyatt vs. the Ritz? Thx
