Sapa in February
We will be in VN in February and would like to go to the Sapa area. I know it can be cold and wet at that time of year, but how "cold" is "cold?" Would it be a mistake to go then? Unfortunately, I probably will never be in the area again so it is then or never.

I have been researching a trip to Sapa in April. While in the process of doing this I saw in the Lonely Planet guide that January and February are the coldest months - not only can temps go as low as 32F but there is fog and drizzle. Bring your winter woollies...

The travel agent said it averages 65 during the day but can get into the 30's in the evening. Also, it is generally dry at that time. I hope that is true.

We were there in January a couple of years ago travelling the Dien Bien Phu loop. the weatehr was very variable ranging from below freezing to 75f and clear blue skies. Generally it does not get much colder although it snowed on Mount Fansipan a couple of days after we left. Generally speaking the weather was clear and temps averaged about 60f.
You should definitely go and try to get out into the surrounding countryside and villages. Sapa town itself can be a bit of a human zoo especially on a weekend. |
