San Francisco to India thru Germany?

I need help. I am going to go to India for the 5th time this year and this time, I want to go a different way. I've heard there are specials where Lufthansa goes thru Germany to India at no extra charge. This would be good but Germany's not my first choice. Does anybody know of any other destinations/airlines that would accomplish this same idea? I'm leaving from San Francisco.

I always preferred to go through Heathrow on British Airways. I had a layover in London from early morning arrival until late evening departure, and could spend the day in the city. I spent several very nice days wandering around London and really enjoyed the break between flights. I never really had much time to do anything when I went through Frankfurt AM, and making that connections just wore me out. You might look into Swiss Air via Zurich as well; I made that connection once and spent a few hours visiting the nomes. It's a beautiful, quaint city. Have a great trip.

FWIW, when my BF and his family fly from NYC to India, they go through either Frankfurt or Dubai. I can ask him for more details...

If you haven't booked an airline already, and don't mind a non-stop flight, Continental flies from Newark, NJ to Delhi (it's 15 hours though and flies full). Alternatively American Airlines flies from Chicago to Bombay (non-stop). And an Indian carrier, Jet airways will begin flying New York-Bombay/Delhi in mid-august.
Another cheap and efficient option was Finnair which flies from New York to Helsinki and then Delhi or Bombay.
Hope this helps.

we used to fly west from Portland, Oregon. Usually on Singapore Airlines. Most of the westerly routes will end up taking 30-36 hours depending on layovers.

We're now Lufthansa converts. With the Portland > Frankfurt > Chennai flight it is down to 21 hours.

They're website usually has competitive prices.

San Francisco should have more options.
