samui or krabi/phuket
As I have said I am planning a honeymoon to Thailand in June. I have been told that phuket in June is very dicey due to weather and that Samui is a better choice. Can someone here write something to convince my fiancee that this is the best choice or convince me otherwise? Thanks, Lloydboy |
go to www.weatherbase.com and look at the rainfall figures for various areas of Thailand. Note that Samui isn't the only opton in June, there are other islands as well on that side of Thailand that will have better weather than the Phulet area in June.

now the plan is 3 days Bangkok, 3 days Samui, 3 days Phuket ( Probably Kata area ). What are good options instead of Samui on that side? Samui is nice, right?
Another option is to be south east on phuket to make it easier to get to phi phi ( or is that worth the extra travel considering we only plan 3 days on phuket ?) Lloyd |
Lloyd, I just posted the rainfall stats for June, although as like weather anywhere you 'could' get days of solid glorious sunshine in June around Phuket, but if it pours down every day, well, that is the chance you take.
There are other island options close to Samui such as Koh Phangan and Koh Tao which are much quieter than Samui but gives you the lively style of Samui together with quiet of the others, Koh tao is great for diving and snorkeling and just a short boat trip from Samui. Phi Phi is great but just note that you run the risk of rain and with a short period it could be a 'wash-out', literaly. You can do a day trip weather permiting from Phuket or krabi to Phi Phi. Getting from Samui to Phuket is a 50 minute flight ( Bangkok Airways again ), no flights Samui to krabi in low season, so that is about 1 hr 30+ boat to mainland and then having a driver take you down to krabi, about another 3 hours. Another option if you didn't mind the quietness of Koh Chang would be a few days on Koh Chang and then fly direct from U-Tapao to Phuket. How weather effects people is very different, if you feel overcast skies and rain will really dampen your enjoyment then I would stick to where the weather is good, howver, if tropical rain means the chance to enjoy a spa treatment, massage, or relax with a great book or anything else then you can still enjoy, whether someone allows the rain to wash-out days or not is realy down to the individual. if you were at a nice place at kata like the kata Thani and you were happy to enjoy the Spa if it rained then well and good, but if the sunshine and clear skies is important....I am lucky, I really love tropical rain, first thing I do when it rains is stop work, grab a good novel and sit under our wooden veranda and 'relax', I love it! Samui is a nice island where you can be as quiet or busy as you wish, the airport is a great welsome, palm trees, real tropical island style. if you like or want to snorkel adding a few days on Koh Tao island would be an option. Krabi is very scenic, huge limestone rocks out of the water, some nice beaches, Phi Phi is small, tropical island style, Phuket much busier and much large island altogether. Don't rsuh this, browse, see photos, ask as much as you want, no rush as June is not busy at all, so you have time. I would though perhaps look at flights because getting your long-haul flights sorted at a good price might be not as easy as sorting local places. |
Let me recommend that you NOT choose three days each location. Basically, you lose a day each time you change places, so for such a short trip, confine yyourselves to three locations (you don't really want to spend your honeymoon in airport, do you?).
Choose one beach area plus Bangkok - that will be plenty. |
Thanks James, You should charge for this !! |
