Salisbury YMCA ?
My brother and his wife want to spend 3days, 2nights over a weekend soon in Hong Kong. They are thrify but like clean, safe and convenient to transit. I saw several references to the YMCA? Can someone give me the skinny on it and how to make a reservation? Or perhaps other reasonably priced hotels, centrally located? Thanks!

Gail -

It's fine. Better than fine if you include a room with the million dollar view for $100.

We stayed there in '99 and it was perfectly fine. Neat, clean, basic. Nothing fancy but plenty good enough to meet their needs. Tell them to ask for a room with a view. I think we paid $85-90 and oh, what a view to have from your hotel room!

As for safe, HK is pretty much way safe than most big cities in the States and location is great. A couple of blocks takes you to the Star Ferry or the Metro station.

No worries!

Lynn

:-)

It is good and the food there is good and inexpensive too. I live in Hong Kong and eat there every now and then.

By the way, don't you think staying only staying 2 nights in HK would be a bit rush? There is a lot to see and experience!

Let me know if you need any further assistance.

This hotel is manage by the same people as the Pennisula. It's also a dormitory / school. The room is nice, clean,10 minutes walk to the MTR, couple minutes walk to the Star Ferry, across is the Museum. Get the room with half harbour view is more than enough ! For first timer, stay around in this area is better, 99 percent of the stores, restaurants able to communicate in English !
Contact Dorothy Ho at taketraveller.com. Her email address is [email protected]. Their prices are UNBEATABLE !Tell her Alex send you. She will take care of all your needs and worries regarding hotels.
Do not buy expensive electronic/ jewelry in this area ! May be next trip !
Good luck !

My family and I had a standard room and a one bedroom suite at the Salisbury. It is the best deal in town as far as I'm concerned. Great location. The suite had a beautiful view with a fancy glass block window. Our room, the standard room was quite adequate...at the level of a Hilton. There are coin laundries that you can use on the dormitory side of the hotel.
