Saigon vs Hanoi

HELP! Have 3 days (August) in one of these two cities. Which do you prefer and why? Into the French colonial scene and history. Must decide within the next couple of days. Accomodations already taken care of in either city.
Thanks!!!!

Hanoi. It still has some lovely French colonial architecture, wide, tree-lined boulevards, as well as older, traditional VN structures. Three days is just enough to get a flavor for the city, but not enough to feel you've really explored it. You should get enough flavor to know you could come back for more.

Definitely Hanoi. Explore the crowded streets of the French Quarter. Wander round the lakes. Visit the museums. Eat. I would expect it to be a bit cooler, too.

Hanoi. Not as bewildering as Saigon.
