Saigon - Renaissance Riverside

This hotel gets very good reviews on trip advisor, but frommers mentioned that the rooms (including non-smoking rooms) smell musty and smoky. We have Marriott points & were planning to stay here, but now thinking that maybe we should pay & stay at the New Park Hyatt which gets raves on trip advisor. Anyone stayed at the Renaissance Saigon recently who can help us make a choice... Thanks.

Bisbee (who lives in HCMC) recommends the Sheraton as #1, the Park Hyatt as #2 in a post below. Perhaps he'll see your post and be able to comment on the Renaissance.

This was one of the best hotels we have stayed at. We booked the Club rooms and I'd say it was well worth the extra money just for the lounge with its great breakfast and the early evening free tasters and drink( fab- if you were particularly greedy you could turn it into a full dinner!)
Bedroom was huge and had every amenity you could wish for.

I stayed there and highly recommend it. Great breakfast, excellent rooftop pool with a fabulous view, and well located. I didn't notice any musty smell. It was simply terrific.

I have a sunrise pic of the pool here: http://jmpr.photium.com/portfolio7393.html

Thanks, everyone. Someone at Frommer's must just have had a bad room as I have seen only good reviews and no one has mentioned musty or smoky smells. Mitch, Thanks for posting your photos -- they were lovely and unique.

I've only been in the lobby at the RR, but have had many friends who stayed there and they really enjoyed it. It's on a very busy corner (Mai Linh Point), but I think if you got a room on a high enough floor, a river view room would still be quiet. Otherwise you can ask for a city view room.
